This popular class is based on the belief that mental and physical health are interrelated, and should be conditioned together. All of the classes at AHIMSA YOGA PLATTEKLOOF attempt to coordinate breathing and physical movement, improve focus and concentration, and help participants regain control of their body and mind.

Pregnancy Yoga

Friday 5pm - 6pm

This is a gentle vinyasa flow classes guided by our very knowledgeable teacher, Therese Theron. All stages of pregnancy and all levels of yoga is welcome.

Althea McPherson

Yoga Instructor

My name is Althea McPherson, and I’m a Yoga Alliance teacher in 200h Ashtanga and Vinyasa Flow (YTTC) and a lifelong committed yoga practitioner.  I studied under the guidance of the awe inspiring yoga guru, Sudhir Rishi (philosophy, pranayama and meditation) as well as other incredible and well respected yoga teachers of Goa, India. To say this experience was life changing, is a tremendous understatement. I immersed myself into the practice daily and absorbed every bit of knowledge and wisdom I was receiving in the beautiful and humbling surrounds of Goa, India. On returning to South Africa, as a fully qualified yoga instructor and lifelong student of this practice, I’m committed to sharing all this knowledge I received and continue to receive on my wonderful yoga journey. 
 My earliest memories are of me either taking part in gymnastics competitions, ballet or running athletics. My love for fitness and being active has been a huge part of my life for as long as I can remember. As a lifelong fitness enthuasiast, I was simply looking to add something complementary to my fitness routine. Yoga gave me so much more than just physical fitness...
My yoga journey started while living in Taiwan for a few years. Living in a foreign country can be tough and isolating at times, but yoga really taught me to breath, let go of what doesn’t serve me and to be more accepting of myself and others. I practiced yoga on and off for a further 15 years and always dreamt of one day doing a yoga teachers course in India and owning my own studio. In 2018 this dream has became a reality, one I’m so grateful for. Yoga is such an integral part of my life, it is my daily meditation. The practice of yoga allows me to continuously fine tune my relationship with my mental, physical and spiritual self. Through my practice, I have gained a deeper understanding of how certain stimuli trigger certain reactions within me, good and bad. 
Yoga has given me the tools to consciously and mindfully navigate the movement from one state to another along my life's journey.
Yoga is a remembrance of true self, a remembrance of that attainable peace that exists within.
I teach to help my students find a sense of peace and balance amidst their stressful lives and to discover the beauty and uniqueness that lies within, and all around, them. My wish is to guide you through your own self discovery and provide a stepping stone for you to reach your highest potential. When I teach, I learn. In order to be an effective teacher, one must constantly practice. Since I have incorporated this practice into my life and completed my 200 hour certification, I have become dedicated to the blissful experience of sharing the‘principles and practice of teaching’ with others, providing a safe vessel for them on a journey of self discovery.I teach, because for me, the beauty of Yoga is that in finding your physical strength you find yourself . And when you find yourself you learn to stand tall in your body, you embody your space more confidently, openly. And when you carry yourself this way you change not only how you see yourself, but how others see you.
It gives me the opportunity to share with others what I found in myself. Helping others better themselves is a great honor and privilege.
I look forward in sharing my knowledge and growing with my students so that together we can build a yoga community in Plattekloof of like minded people, people that treat themselves and others with love, respect and kindness.

Therese Theron

Yoga Instructor

Dipping in and out of various yoga classes since 2002, it was in 2008 that Tess truly discovered the magic and essence of yoga. She is forever grateful to all the teachers who have inspired her, guided her and continue to teach her the values and facts about this beautiful practice. She remains a student, open to learn more and be guided by those who have walked and is still guided by the path.

 Tess has a natural zest for life that shines through in everything she does, especially her yoga. Fun and playful, yet challenging she encourages participants to find their way with a smile. Bringing the same positivity to all her classes, whether teaching children’s yoga or adults, it is her own enthusiasm for exploration and discovery that encourages people to delve a bit deeper into their own practice.

Her yoga teaching is based on the seven main chakras in the body and each week will focus on a different area on a 4 week cycle.  Movements are fluid, linked to the breath and transitions from one posture to the next.  Tess is a firm believer that the tools of yoga can be applied to everyday life and challenges.

Come with an open mind and a smile and discover what you might be ready for today, for today and this moment is all there is.

Darren Waterman

Yoga Instructor 

My name is Darren Waterman, I'm 26 years old, born in Cape Town but trained in Nepal. I love to share movement, not just for physical exercise, but to explore and experience yourself and your body with the concept of breath and self awareness. I like to focus on relaxation, dissolving stress and tension from the body,  guiding you to get in touch with the space you hold within so that you can discover new pathways, aligning your body.

Ashtanga Yoga

Focus on the present moment. Among its many benefits, this class helps improve numerous aspects of your life including reaction time and short term memory. Pregnant Yoga

This particular class helps build a strong core from which one can transition into new positions and exercises. This flow centers around control and precision, with a diversity of exercises and modifications to suit a wide range of levels from beginner to advanced. With this class, you will learn and practice the tools needed to lead a healthy and fit lifestyle, while also remaining mindful in every act you perform.
